An Overview: Journey of Android: Android OS has evolved drastically in a span of mere one decade. The Mobile OS world registered various updates and newly launched OS by Android. Apart from Blackberry, Symbian, etc… Android OS has become the most desirable OS by the smart phone user. Android was initially a product of Linux Kernel till the time it was bought by Google in the year 2005. Android OS was specifically developed for Touch screen Smart phones and Tablets. Android has been launching its OS year after year; starting with Froyo then Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean. The latest OS version of Android 4.4 Kit Kat was released on 31^st October, 2013 by making a debut in Nexus 5. Technical Know how: Android 4.4 Kit Kat After breaking the series inspite of continuing with Jelly OS, Google underwent various improvisations and revisions in its Operating System. The launch of Nexus 5 displayed the launch of Android 4.4 Kit Kat version. Kit Kat 4.4 brings forward new things in its basket. Keeping few things as it is, 4.4 Kit Kat has been power packed with its new offerings for the user. The following are the positive changes that will give an improved experience to the user, both visually as well as functionally: 1. Design Aspect: Android has never come up with such a pleasant visual appeal before as compared to its previous versions. Kit Kat 4.4 brings ecstasy for the Android lovers. It has shown incredible improvements with respect to the visual design. There are subtle upgrades in visuals which soothes the eyes at the best. The same old black background has been removed from notification bar. The blue colored status icons have been changed to white in order to read easily. Google’s Dan Sandler said, “Aesthetic concerns definitely factored into this (as has been mentioned elsewhere, a more neutral SystemUI allows apps to manage their own color palettes a bit better), but also keep in mind that with the new translucent bars feature, the color became a usability problem. Good old spam links doesn’t pop as well on top of random wallpapers, even with the background protection.” 2. Performance Aspect: The services in Google can now be accessed with great ease. The user can receive timely email alerts, courier confirmations, weather forecasts, etc… speedily. One of the key objectives of Kit Kat 4.4 was to run smoothly on 512 MB RAM Smart Phones. Nexus 5 runs really smooth by Kit Kat 4.4 OS. The Kit Kat 4.4 functionality is way better than the Jelly Bean and Ice Cream Sandwich versions. At times, the OS tends to become jerky and rigid. But it is way lesser than the previous versions. 3. Imaging and Video Capture Mode: The imaging and video functionality is the same as in the previous versions. This proved to be disappointing for the Android OS users as the camera took way long in starting up. It takes a very long time in booting up. The great thing about this is that Google is soon going to launch an update about this problem area which will give a great experience to the users.
