Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge have recently been unveiled as the new flagships along with S7 by the South Korean Smartphone giant putting an end to the S6’s flagship crown and here we are giving a detailed review after our short use. During our testing period we found that the S7 and S7 edge are not much different from the yesteryear’s S6 pair. Samsung however has clearly tried to overwrite all the minor glitches that its previous flagship had and now brought out an Android that can clearly be considered a competition for the Iphone. Display and Build: The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge have the same display size of 5.5 inch with Quad HD pushing it into the phablet section. They also sport a super AMOLED display just as its predecessor. When talking on its build, it is a bit heavier and thicker than its predecessor although it is made of the same metal and glass. Also it is seen that they have adopted the Note 5’s curved back making it easier to hold. Camera: When it comes to camera, the Galaxy S7’s camera is one of the best of any smartphone. Although Samsung has reduced the number of MPs on the main camera sensor from 16 to 12 the camera’s snappy focus and shutter time, in conjunction with the quick launch feature, make it an undeniable selling point. The reduce in pixels is mainly because of the dual pixel technology, a feature that can be found on more expensive Canon SLR cameras. With the shutter, S7 goes one step further than the Galaxy S6 along with the increase in aperture size from f/1.9 to f/1.7. It also has an optical image stabilizer that compensates for the unsteady hands.The 5MP front camera with an f/1.7 aperture, delivered amazing results even in poor lighting conditions.     Battery: There has been an overall increase in the battery capacity from 2600mah to 3000mah following the strong complaints from the S6 users and it has worked out well for the S7. The phone survived a whole day heavy usage. The phone also has wireless charging just like its predecessor and quick charging that makes the battery side a strong selling point. However a drawback is that the battery is a removable one. Audio: The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge have good audio options and the speakers are loud and clear. Software: The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge run on Android Marshmallow with TOUCHWIZ interface which is the most updated version of Android. However I experienced a few crashes and bugs which I feel will be removed in future updates. Processor: The Galaxy S7 and S7 edge we used had the Exynos 8890 processor (a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 version which is available in the US). The new top-of-the-range processor from Samsung has four plus four CPU cores and Mali-T880 graphics. If only one or two cores are in use, they will be automatically overclocked to 2.6 GHz, which provides faster performance on most everyday tasks and the heat pipe cooling solution implemented into the S7 prevents thermal throttling in everyday life. The internal storage is 32 GB UFS 2.0 memory. This flash memory provides the highest speeds we have seen on an Android device. With 389 MB / s read and 68 MB / s write speeds registered in Vellamo Metal, the Galaxy S7 is 2.45 and 1.39 times faster, respectively, than the (almost) equally expensive Nexus 6P. Dust and water resistant IP68 certification After a two-year wait, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge series is again dust and water resistant. And this time, instead of just surviving temporary immersion, the Galaxy S7 is now capable of surviving a depth of up to 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes. Thus, it has a better class of protection than the Galaxy S5 and far better than the Galaxy S6, which promised no protection against these elements. During our test period, I doused the Galaxy S7 a number of times without any problems. An additional clever move is that when we attempted to plug in the charging cable while a drop of water is in the USB port, the S7 will prevented the charge to avoid short circuits. Other specs: On the connectivity front the phone supports Cat9 4G speeds which are the fastest available on the planet. However the upload speeds remain the same.The comeback of the microSD card option is another plus for the mobile as many had showed their dissent for its non presence in the previous flagship. The fingerprint sensor is the same as in the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge and delivers excellent performance at all times. Final Verdict: In our short usage we found that the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge are the best available smartphones till date and have every reason to be placed above the latest Iphone. The curved back also makes it easy and comfortable for holding ourwhich is an additional feature that the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge lacked.
