Dubai is already the home to the world’s tallest building and now it is looking to get ahead in many more fields by getting out of the driver’s seat. Dubai’s ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has announced some plans Monday to have 25% of all car trips in this city-state in the United Arab Emirates to be driverless by 2030. This means that the driverless cars which are soon to be brought into market after the testing stages will definitely find a good market in Dubai. In a statement carried by the state-run WAM news agency, the Dubai ruler said that it would cut down on costs and traffic crashes. He also said that the project would be a joint venture by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority and the Dubai Future Foundation. With all this information in, it is to be noted that Dubai is already a home to a driverless Metro rail system. It also has a number of taxi companies that are driven by a large foreign labor force.
